KEYS TO EFFICIENT SWIMMIMG…

1: Body Position is the most important facet of swimming.   Where your head sits dictates the position of the rest of your body.  You want to be looking forward

2: Reach Foward With every stroke you want to extend your arm to it’s maximum length.  After your hand enters the water, reach forward another 6 inches!  this is a big one- DO NOT start pulling, keep reaching before you pull.

3:Body Rotation this is related to reaching foward meaning you pivot your body with each stroke. If you reach foward after your arm enters the water your body will naturally rotate.  Your body should rotate 120 degree with each stroke.

4: Hourglass Pull the goal is to maximize the amount of water pulled.  If you pull in an S shape you are pulling more water then if you pulled straight down.   Think of an hourglass shape as you pull through the water

5: Finish the Stroke Do not pull your hand out prematurely -a way to test this is make sure your thumb grazes your thigh before finishing the stroke.

Scared of the open water?….Beach start?
We can work on all that as well.

The key to swimming is technique!  No use in doing laps with poor technique.  It simply won’t pay off. It’s very hard to read and see videos on how to swim. This is really an area where private coaching or having a masters coach will pay off.
